So, Resident Evil 3 releases tomorrow and as many fans probably are; they cannot wait to begin surviving against the endless hordes of zombies and the fearsome Nemesis! However, it seems this remake is going to feature some new additions~
Currently in beta, (available on Steam!) this is a departure into an uncharted area for the series. The premise of this game is that you play as either a survivor or the mastermind. (Think Dead by Daylight)
When playing as the mastermind, you control a series of cameras and can create zombies, traps and other tricks to stop the survivors from escaping to the exit. However the survivors also have ways to interfere with the mastermind such as temporarily disabling cameras and having weapons to take care of any brain hungry undead as well as having strength in numbers.
The mastermind can even summon the almighty Tyrant from RE 2 and other memorable creatures that scared the living daylights out of me! The mastermind also has different templates for trap/creature layouts you can select or just pick a random one for fun!
Then there are the survivors.
The survivors each come with their own traits and abilities ranging from being tough to kill to having heal abilities and hacking abilities to sabotage the mastermind. Certain characters fair better with melee weapons and so on. It should be noted that the first image in this article featured more survivors than these characters which would suggest there will be other survivors in the future. At this time however, the four list above are only available in the beta.
While you can’t change the load-out or abilities of the survivors either, it would seem those kind of features will be available at a later time.
The controls for the survivors is like that of Resident Evil 2/3 remakes but expect it to feel a bit clunky as it is still in beta and at times you can feel overwhelmed with all the enemies the mastermind is spawning, expect to get cornered with Mr. X giving it to you!
So if you need to scratch that itch for Resident Evil 3, check out the beta and start honing your zombie survival skills! Oh I should mention one more thing, the multiplayer game on steam is in fact…..
