What’s going on everyone? Enjoying your time stuck at home? Potentially going insane? Running out of ideas/games to play? Well fear not! I have devised a system for any quarantined gamer that will help you stay gaming as if the world was nothing different!
Today I will be talking about the ‘Gamer’s Rule of 3’ which is easy to follow and is customizable to your liking. The Rule of 3 is comprised simply of three games of your liking with each one having a certain specification and I’ll even list the games I’m using for this rule-set myself! With that… Let’s start with the first game; The Main Squeeze.
The Main Squeeze
So your main squeeze is going to be the game you currently are playing obviously. This game should be something that you can invest many hours into. Whether that be an infamously long JRPG or a MOBA that has constant updates and is always in season or it could simply be a game series you’ve never tried but wanted to get into.
Here’s my current pick for this choice:
Dragon Quest is a well known rpg series that has been around for yeaaaars and XI currently is known to be the newest and best of the series with a play time average of 80-100 hours, highly re-playable, and this is the first game in the series I’ve ever played! (Currently streaming on Twitch btw 😉 twitch.tv/brotherghesh)
With that being said… what about when the main squeeze isn’t hitting right and you need something different? Well it’s time now for the second rule of the Gamer’s Rule of 3.
The Side Game
The Side Game is that game that will help fill the void when you need a break from your main squeeze. Thankfully, you can treat the side game a bit differently from the first choice as this is meant to be a game to play whenever the need arises for short bursts or when you just want to lay around during a quarantine or something.
The Side Game can be whatever you can find (and free preferably) as long as it gives you some kind of stimulation and maybe allows you to multi-task, like watching a stream *winky face*
Here’s my choice of side game:
Runescape as a whole as been around for a long time, since the dawn of internet one might say, and the great thing about this game is you can always start with a free account.
This free account can easily translate into many many hours of grinding skills and doing free player quests and still having a fun time clicking and forgetting while still making progress in the game. Hey maybe this might turn into your main squeeze if you decide to become a member…
Or maybe instead of a main squeeze you could turn an idea like this into the last rule of the Gamer Rule of 3!
The Game of the Future
You might be wondering, what’s gonna happen once it’s all said and done with my main squeeze? What if my side game ups and leaves and I don’t have a back-up plan for another game to play? Well fear not!
The last rule of the Gamer’s Rule of 3 is designed to ‘future-proof’ your tactic to provide a game or maybe a salvation of hope to look forward to after finishing your current games. This game should be one that you haven’t touched yet but are very curious about trying. It could be the next game in a series you’re playing or maybe it’s another free game you randomly found with your surplus of free time lying around.
If you’re having trouble finding that next choice consider your preferred genre of games and then idk googling popular games of that genre or looking at whatever game store (Steam, PSN, Nintendo e-Shop, etc) you use to see if maybe there is a sale (which 9 times out of 10 there is ) on certain games or maybe there is a free trial available of new games releasing soon that can tickle your fancy.
Anyway, here’s my current Game of the Future pick:
Now I have watched a few streams on Twitch of this game, but it has appealed to me greatly where it had been sitting in my wishlist for so long and when it finally went on sale I snatched it up and then haven’t even tried it because…. games. However, with that quarantine thing going on now I’ve got a bit more time to play games I’ve really wanted to check out but couldn’t find time for.
Remnant is also known as a certain genre that I haven’t played much of but wouldn’t mind getting better at I.E. Dark Souls like.
Summary (TLDR)
To round up the Gamer’s Rule of 3 Let’s talk about the three components
The Main Squeeze: Your current game/genre of choice that will provide many hours of fun enjoyable gameplay that can be enjoyed again as needed.
The Side Game: Your secondary game that can be played when not playing your main squeeze and can be easily enjoyed while multi-tasking and isn’t a costly game to play (either by time or money)
The Game of the Future: Your next available game that sparks curiosity and hasn’t been touched yet that can accommodate either a new main squeeze or side game when your current one is completed or no longer desired.
With this ruleset, you will no longer be a sad, lonely, and/or bored gamer with nothing to do while being trapped inside during this extended gamer break.
SO STAY INSIDE AND GAME YOUR HEART OUT
As always,
Brother Ghesh out~
